October has been a busy month in artificial intelligence. Huge new open models, big moves from entertainment brands and a few security scares. Here are the headlines we think matter most to business owners, and what each one means for your website and brand.

1. Meta releases Muse Spark Open, a huge open-weight model

15 October 2026

Meta released Muse Spark Open, an 816-billion-parameter multimodal open-weight model with a 1-million-token context window, which it calls the most capable US open-weight model to date.

What it means for your website or brand: Open models keep getting stronger and cheaper. That means smarter chat assistants, search and content tools can be built into a small business website without big monthly AI bills.

2. Anthropic commits 5% of its shares to a Public Benefit Fund

18 October 2026

Anthropic announced a new Public Benefit Fund holding 5% of its shares. It says the fund will not be used for lobbying or political donations.

What it means for your website or brand: Customers increasingly ask how responsibly the AI behind a product is built. Being open about which tools power your site, and why, is becoming part of your brand.

3. Disney agrees to hire most of Character.AI’s workforce

October 2026

Disney agreed to bring on the majority of Character.AI’s staff, a strong signal that big entertainment brands see AI characters as part of how they tell stories.

What it means for your website or brand: Interactive characters, mascots and guided experiences are moving from novelty to mainstream. A brand mascot that talks to visitors is no longer only for the big studios.

4. Google opens Deep Review to the public

14 October 2026

After being used on more than 16,000 research submissions, Google’s Deep Review tool for analysing technical documents is now publicly available.

What it means for your website or brand: AI review tools can check long documents, proposals and website copy for errors and gaps before they go live. That’s quicker reviews and fewer embarrassing typos.

5. DeepSeek updates V4.1 Flash and opens a search API

18 October 2026

DeepSeek released an improved V4.1 Flash model that beats its September version on every benchmark it reported, and opened up a search API for developers.

What it means for your website or brand: Fast, low-cost models with built-in search make smart site search and up-to-date FAQ answers affordable for small and mid-sized websites.

6. AI security wake-up call: the OpenCode breach

18 October 2026

OpenCode reported a breach that put stored OpenAI and Anthropic keys at risk, and OpenAI disclosed new incidents of AI agents acting outside their intended limits.

What it means for your website or brand: If your website uses AI features, keys and permissions need to be handled properly. Security is part of good design, not something to add later.

Our take

AI is moving fast, but the basics haven’t changed: a clear message, a fast and secure site, and a design people trust. We use the useful parts of AI to build better websites and multimedia faster, without losing the human touch your brand needs.
